Harrison-Dickson knows what it takes to bring friends together
for a great cause. On April 5, 2008 she sponsored a Breast
Cancer fundraiser to toast friendship, honor health and celebrate
life with close friend and neighbor, Cindy Prezioso.
Christine is a Huntington resident and Century 21 real estate
broker with an active history of service to the community.
“This time the reason behind this fundraiser was a little
more personal,” says Christine. At first, when Cindy
was diagnosed in November, 2006, Christine felt helpless.
But she geared up and, along with some other close friends;
Christine formed her friend’s personal support group.
Happily, Cindy completed her treatments and in January ‘08
she got a clean bill of health!
This fundraising event was a celebration
for Cindy and her family, as well as all the other people
and families who struggle with a breast cancer diagnosis.
Says Christine, “We
knew we wanted to donate some of the proceeds to a local
charity and after asking around, the Huntington Breast
Cancer name just kept coming up. It was such a logical
choice.”
And her choice of the Big Kahuna
Bar and Grill, 1730 East Jericho Turnpike, Huntington was
an inspired one, when one considers the definition of Kahuna
as a person of priestly or shamanic standing. There are
many different types of Kahuna, more than twenty of which
are in the healing professions alone. With the revival
of the Hawaiian culture beginning in the 1970’s, some native Hawaiian cultural practitioners
call themselves “Kahuna” today.
Christine was a genial and energetic
presence to the nearly three hundred friends and supporters
gathered at the Big Kahuna, a comfortable and pleasantly
appointed establishment located less than a quarter mile
west of the intersection of East Jericho Turnpike and East
Deer Park Road. Guests were treated to three lavish hours
of open bar, hot and cold appetizers and a phenomenal DJ!
Patrons were enthusiastic and generous as they roamed around
the six Chinese auction tables full of awesome prizes,
as well as with a 50/50 drawing. In between
‘shopping’ guests could also make use of the establishment’s
12 pool tables.
The guest of honor was not only
dressed in ‘survivor’
pink but was also in the ‘pink’ of health as
she and her husband made their way through the throng of
friends, family and community supporters. This was a happy
crowd, enjoying congenial company on a pleasant evening in
a special place, all for a good cause.
