HBCAC Named A 2007 Beneficiary Of The Long
Island 2 Day Walk Set For June 9th & 10th, 2007
For the fourth year, the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition
(HBCAC) has been named one of the beneficiaries of the Long
Island 2 Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. With nearly $400,000
raised from the 2006 event alone, this 35-mile walk has surpassed
$1,000,000 in fundraising earnings since the inaugural walk
in 2004 – with 100% of the proceeds being distributed exclusively
to 14 Long Island not-for-profit women’s health organizations.
LI2DAY was organized and established to raise awareness and
funding for the fight against breast cancer and to improve
the quality of life for the families affected by breast cancer
here on Long Island. All proceeds raised by walkers participating
in the annual June event are distributed to breast cancer outreach
organizations throughout Suffolk and Nassau counties.
The two-day, 35-mile walk begins Saturday morning at Smith
Point County Park at the Fire Island Barrier Beach in Shirley
and continues along scenic Suffolk County roads. After 20 miles,
participants camp overnight and enjoy a family style feast,
live entertainment and fun at Cathedral Pines County Park in
Middle Island. Walkers complete a 15-mile route back to Smith
Point County Park the following day and mark the completion
of the event with an emotional awards ceremony and celebration.
In an effort to recruit new walkers for the 2007 LI2DAY Walk,
slated for Saturday, June 9th and Sunday, June 10th – the organization
is launching its first annual “New Year’s Resolution” promotion.
All walkers who register in the month of January will receive
a discount off of the standard registration fee, which includes:
event t-shirts, breakfast and lunch for two days, Saturday
night dinner, new tents, hot showers, water, snacks, secure
parking and roundtrip transportation to Smith Point County
Park for opening and closing ceremonies.
To facilitate walker registration, LI2DAY has also launched
a new interactive website: www. li2daywalk.org, where walkers
may register individually, or as teams, to meet their fundraising
goals. For further information, interested walkers, volunteers
and sponsors can call 631-863-2DAY (2329) or visit www.li2daywalk.org.
or visit the HBCAC website at www.hbcac.org to
download a registration application.
Come join the fun! HBCAC members and supporters interested
in volunteering for a few hours at this very special weekend
or participating in our water station booth along the walk
route, please call the office at 631-547-1518 or email us at friends@hbcac.org.
