Acidophilus - this supplement replaces the good bacterial flora
that assist in forming the stool in the intestines. It is especially
helpful when someone has taken antibiotics that may destroy the
good intestinal flora, causing diarrhea. Acidophilus helps to normalize
the intestinal function.
Acute Stress - is usually a short term period and is manageable
while employing, planning and using strategies for relaxation and
focus, such as meditation, self- hypnosis, Tai Chi, yoga, and exercise.
This is the most common type of stress.
Circadian Rhythm – is the body’s “biological clock.” A body’s circadian
rhythms can be affected by light or darkness, which can make
the body think it is time to sleep or wake up. The 24-hour rhythm
controls functions such as: sleeping and waking; body temperature;
balance of body fluids; the way other body systems function.
Lymphatic System – tissues and organs that produce, store and
carry leukocytes that fight infection. This system includes the
bone marrow, spleen, thymus, and lymph nodes and a network of
thin tubes that carry lymph to call the tissues in the body.
Melatonin - is a hormone produced in the pineal gland, a small
gland in the brain that helps regulate sleep and wake cycles. Normally,
melatonin levels begin to rise in the mid to late evening,
remain high for most of the night, and then decline in the early
morning hours. Natural melatonin production is partly affected
by light.
Slippery Elm (Ulmus fulva) - an herb used for coughs, skin conditions,
and as an eye wash. It has a moistening effect on the body
and is a safe and effective option to treat sore throat (pharyngitis),
and respiratory symptoms, such as cough. It can be taken as a tea
and also comes in lozenges.
Stress – is a physical, mental, and emotional response to life’s
changes and demands. Stress is experienced in levels. Events
which are pleasant, as well as unpleasant provide stress in our lives.
Stress is neither good nor bad, stress simply exists in our lives.
Without stress there can be no growth, no challenge to improve.
We actually grow and improve with stress, as an athlete grows and
improves with exercise, exercise is stress.
