Green Bowling Comes to 300 Long Island

HBCAC throws strikes for the environment

Melville, NY, April 9, 2007—The Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition (HBCAC) will take its cause to the lanes on May 17th when it bowls for the environment during the sixth annual “Prevention is the Cure” at 300 Long Island, Melville’s newest indoor entertainment experience.

Known as “Bowling Green: Safe & Sustainable Fun!,” HBCAC’s charity fundraiser also will help raise awareness for environmental links to disease, including breast cancer, urging the public to demand more funding for environmental health research. The weeklong observance of “Prevention is the Cure” Education Week will engage Long Island’s diverse population with more than 20 programs throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.

“We are very pleased that HBCAC chose 300 Long Island for its Bowling Green event,” said Adam Hirsh, facility general manager. “We’re all set to make it fun and memorable for everyone, kids and adults alike.”

Lanes at The Back 9, 300 Long Island’s private bowling and entertainment center, will be reserved for the event from 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm on May 17. That’s where Bowling Green participants will compete for the title of best male bowler, best female bowler and best overall bowler. HBCAC will make sure that everyone receives information on safe and sustainable uses of our environment, including ways to get involved in preserving Long Island’s natural resources. “We hope the first Bowling Green is the start of a tradition at 300 Long Island,” says Hirsh. “Staying active is part of prevention.”

In the spirit of “Prevention is the Cure,” Hirsh says the 300 Long Island chef will prepare a “healthy” style menu for HBCAC bowlers, featuring Long Island market vegetable pizza, and fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomato salad. “We’ll also have plenty of popcorn on hand,” says Hirsh, “so bowlers can enjoy some snacks too.”

Newly renovated, 300 Long Island is taking a strikingly different approach to corporate meetings, fundraisers, and events as well as family celebrations. In December, Long Island Press named 300 Long Island Editor’s Choice. A division of AMF Bowling Centers, Inc., 300 Long Island, formerly Melville Lanes, is one of six 300 locations across the country, including facilities in Austin, Atlanta, Dallas and San Jose. AMF plans to launch its newest 300 location in New York City at Chelsea Piers in spring 2007. 300 Long Island is located at 895 Walt Whitman Road.
